SAACA’s Annual World Margarita Championship

You know what my favorite event of the whole year is? The World Margarita Championship. I went last year and again this year and it does not disappoint… like ever.

To see my coverage of the event last year, click here!

This year was the 12th annual World Margarita Championship at the Hilton Tucson El Conquistador Golf & Tennis Resort presented by the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance and Tucson Originals restaurants. More than 20 restaurants competed and over 800 were in attendance, raising nearly $20,000 to support SAACA arts education and art therapy programs.

There is definitely nothing better than a drink that gives back.

Tanner came with me this year (thanks for being my event photographer with me!) and we even ran into two of my friends from my accounting Masters Program. Even us accounting students need to get out sometimes.

Each $55 ticket included all-you-can-eat-and-drink margarita samples and food pairings. I continuously found myself going back for a few favorites. The event was complete with a mariachi band that played intermittently to really get you in the margarita-drinking mood.

Event Winners:

  1. Fresco’s limoncello margarita
  2. Tequila Factory’s Mexican passionflower margarita
  3. Epazote Kitchen & Cocktails’ desert rose margarita

People’s Choice Winners:

  1. Tequila Factory’s Mexican passionflower margarita
  2. Epazote Kitchen & Cocktails’ desert rose margarita
  3. Chef Chic’s tropical creamsicle margarita (P.S. This was my vote!)
