Well, nothing like reminiscing on a trip that happened six months ago to make you excited for Christmas again… in June.
My whole family left for this vacation on Christmas and we stayed for a week. Unfortunately, my mom has just been hit by a car and wasn’t able to do a lot of walking. We went to four Broadway shows while we were there: The Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, Something Rotten!, and The Book of Mormon. We also went to both The Met and MOMA, and spent the whole day at each museum. I will say that The Met was definitely more my style, while some of the art at MOMA was a little out of reach for my little brain to wrap my head around. My brother loved it though.

As I said, MOMA was a lot for me. There was a lot of art that I thought was a stretch, but all of it had meaning. As in, every artist had a thought that he or she wanted to convey. I guess that’s the neat part about it.
Starry Night, the famous Van Gogh painting, was my personal favorite as I have a lot of copies of that piece. I also enjoyed the sculpture garden and exhibit that was based on famous music.

One of my favorite parts of family vacations though, is the time I get to spend with my parents. I don’t get to be with them for eight out of the twelve months of the year, so it’s always nice to go on coffee dates with my dad or shopping trips with my mom.
I’ve been to New York twice now and both times I’ve visited the Statue of Liberty. Unfortunately I was unable to go to the top, but it’s always a cool thing to see.
The last time I went, I was in sixth grade: nine years ago. When I went last time, Ground Zero was still… well, it was Ground Zero. This time, I got to see the building they’ve put up to replace the Twin Towers as well as the monument to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11.
A trip to New York wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Rockefeller Center, where the infamous Christmas tree stands each year. Since we didn’t set one up last year, this was a more than perfect replacement.
