So I would be lying if I didn’t tell you that one of my favorite parts of traveling is the food. It’s not hard to guess, you know, considering how much food I bake, but I’ve also got an insatiable sweet tooth. So when I heard that there was a gelato shop in Australia that made gelato right in front of your face using liquid nitrogen, I just knew I had to check it out.
It’s called N2 Extreme Gelato and it may be a little piece of heaven on earth. The place is so cool, decorated to look under construction (the employees wear hardhats), and plays some really cool music. Seriously, we all talked about how good their music choices were.
So first thing is first: the flavors. There’s not a ton of variety on the menu, but they change the menu every week! For those of us who like to stick to our pride and true flavors each time we go out, this can be a problem. This menu forces you to be adventurous. But less flavors means better quality. They can perfect a few flavors each week so every flavor is top notch. Check out this week’s menu below.
Okay so they all sound bomb, right? How is a girl to choose?
I was craving chocolate so I narrowed it down to the Ferrero Reveal and the Frozen Hot Chocolate. The Nutella Addict in me saw the hazelnuts in the Ferraro Reveal and my heart was sold. Plus the chocolate topping? The chocoholic in me screamed in content.
So after you watch the employees make everyone else’s gelato, since I was unfortunately not first in line, you get to watch them make your own. They mix everything in stand mixers and add liquid nitrogen to freeze it. How cool is that? The last time I saw liquid nitrogen was in my high school chemistry class. They even have a torch specifically for toasting marshmallows and making a creme brûlée topping, but it looks pretty badass.
Mine got a topping with rice covered in chocolate which hardens like a Ferraro chocolate and a syringe with chocolate ganache. It tasted every bit as good as it looked. I was in my own little world of bliss the entire time I was eating. Not much different than any other time I eat, since I just love food, but it was really good.
It’s safe to say I’ll be going back soon.
