How to Style Your Summer Maxi Dress This Fall

Now, I’m not sure about where you live, but where I am in Tucson, we’ve got summer weather long into Fall. Not trying to brag about our weather, just informing you that Fall outfits aren’t quite my thing.

Most of the time, I go without jackets but we do get a few days below 50 here in Tucson. That means figuring out how to make my summer clothes last as long as possible and being able to transition quickly when the times comes. So, if you’re looking on how to get your summer dress to last into the fall months, just keep reading.

Change up the colors.

So this maxi dress is perfect because it has such gorgeous fall colors. It’s a teal color with accents, which is the perfect color for late summer and into fall. If you focus on transition colors, like teal or mustard, the dresses will flow seamlessly into the fall season.

Add a cute jacket.

In my opinion, the easiest way to take a dress into fall is with a cute jacket. Moto jacket, denim jackets, and the like – they are all perfect for a fall look! I’ve had this denim jacket in my closet forever (check it out in this post too) and it’s seriously the perfect jacket to add to a dress. It’s cropped too, so it cinches in the waist in such a flattering way. I bought this jacket way back in high school and it’s been a staple in my fall wardrobe ever since.

Add fall accessories.

Try adding some fall accessories like this black felt hat or a western style belt. Since I have mine in black, they’re perfect to match with sumemr accessories to give it an updated fall feel. I opted for the cropped denim jacket instead of the belt, but on a hotter autumn day, just the belt would work perfectly to match with the felt hat.

Swap the sandals for mules or booties.

The easiest swap to make is from summer shoes to fall shoes. Try swapping out the strappy sandals for sleek black mules or a cute pair of heeled fall booties!

I definitely agree that a jacket can change the whole vibe of the maxi dress. I rarely wear maxi dresses but I’m definitely open to wearing more now. Great post! 🙂

Thank you! I didn’t used to wear them often but I’ve been breaking them out so much more this year!
