Fresh Faced

As far as my appearance goes, one of the things I’m most proud of is my skin. I remember in middle school, I was super embarrassed about the amount of acne that I had compared to other girls, I always wondered why my skin was so oily in places and flaking in others, and I could never seem to get either of these problems to go away.

Since then, eight years in the making, the acne on my face has all but completely disappeared. My scars have faded, the pores on my nose are almost invisible, and the whiteheads and pimples are almost completely a thing of my past (I will admit, we all get those occasionally).

So what did I change?

One, I went on the birth control pill. Almost immediately, the hormones in the pill helped clear that acne right up. Two, I stopped wearing makeup and, when I did, I always remembered to take it off and wash my face afterward. Three, I set up a morning and night routine for my facial care.

I tried a great many things, including monthly facials, medicated creams and pills, and a variety of skin products. Since then, I’ve found a few products that I’m in love with and have become critical in my routine. Every once in a while, I’ll throw a new product into the mix to see how my skin reacts and how I feel about using it but, other than that, my routine is practically set in stone.

The Holy Grail of my Skincare Routine

My Clarisonic device is easily the rock behind my skincare routine. I can use it with almost any face wash which makes it versatile and it’s like getting my own facial twice a day. The brush heads are interchangeable, so you can even decide what kind of feeling you want on your face when you do use the device. While the Clarisonic Mia device does wonders for your skin, it always feels gentle. There are two speeds, which can be nice depending on what you’re looking for. Sometimes, that hyperspeed feels really good after a long day.

I have a separate face wash for morning and night: in the morning, I use Origin’s GinZing Facial Cleanser (not pictured) because I like the smell and it helps to wake me up. At night, I use strictly Dermalogica products and they are amazing as well. They’re done wonders for my skin since middle school.

Clarisonic’s products are nice to use as well and are definitely worth noting. I will probably stick to my Dermalogica products, but I will definitely use these up.

The Face Mask + The Face Wash

(Unfortunately, these are also not pictured) Like I mentioned above, I am a diehard Dermalogica fan. I will always stand behind my Dermalogica products. I use their face wash, their face masks, their overnight clearing products… everything. I currently use Dermologica’s skin refining mask, their matte moisturizer, and their foaming wash. Everything comes from their Clear Start breakout clearing line. Talk about another miracle worker. I use their foaming wash every day, usually twice each day, with my Clarisonic for the best results.

Honorable Mentions

So, I’m late to the game, but it seems like everyone has something to say about Lush Beauty. This isn’t a lush beauty review, but I did enjoy throwing a few of their skincare products into my routine to alternate between the natural products and the chemicals.

I tried Love Lettuce, which is a fresh face mask that needs to be refrigerated, and I will say, I loved how my face felt when I took it off. It has an exfoliating element and a nice lavender smell, so it’s also nice to have on your face.

I also tried Cup O’ Coffee which I love… just maybe not for my face. It didn’t feel quite as good as I wanted it to, but I loved using it on my body instead!

I can’t believe I just used them for the first time! They do feel pretty good but I’m a little worried about an allergic reaction to one of the natural ingredients!

I first got my Clarisonic Mia five years ago and really loved the crap out of that thing. After a few years, it wouldn’t hold the charge (SUCH a bummer). I’m so glad you are loving yours 🙂
