I’ll admit, I’m really not the best and keeping up with this blog. I’d go off the grid for months at a time. But now, this blog has become my “side-hustle.” You know, that thing you’re really passionate about on the side. Lately, I’ve been keeping up a lot more and I’ve begun to really work with more brands. I’m really excited to see where my blog is headed and what the next big steps are for me.
So, where am I going? What’s the point? Honestly, what am I even doing?
I ask myself these questions every day. I know that I really need to find a solid niche for my blog. All of my wonderful readers have been so supportive, but I’ve really been all over the place with my posts. From travel to food to fashion to fitness, I don’t really know if I can keep it up anymore. At the very least, I need to find a way to solidify my brand.
I love fashion. I may not be the best fashion blogger in the world and I sure do struggle with finding someone ready and willing to take my pictures (my brother does it now, but he’s not to keen on it all the time). But, truth be told, I think I can put together some fabulous outfits and, according to Instagram, I’m pretty good at it.
I love traveling. At least I know that I will never be able to stop traveling but I know that I am not the person who can maintain a traveling lifestyle at the moment, unless you can count my incessant need to move every couple of years.
I love food. I am the biggest foodie I know. I love to cook and I love to eat.
I do not love fitness. I want to be healthy, really I do, but the work that goes in to working out is not up my alley. I’m not good at it, despite my relatively athletic appearance, and, no matter how much I do it, I can’t seem to fall in love with it. However, I need to get in shape and other bloggers are the best and holding each other accountable.
So… Step one.
Define my target market.
If I learned one thing during my time in the business school, it’s that I need to know my target market like the back of my hand. Creepy as it sounds, I want to know who you guys are before you guys know who you guys are.
Create a damn good newsletter. I want to really build up my email subscriber list. I want to create a really great email newsletter to send out 2-4 times per month to keep my readers updated on what’s happening.
Join YouTube…? Maybe I’m a little late to the party, but everyone seems to be doing it. I want to take a stab at creating Tasty-esuqe videos and travel videos from my vacations. We will see what happens with that one.
I really need to step up my photography game. It’s time to really take some quality shots. Maybe I’ll finally invest in something other than a point-and-shoot camera.
Migrate from Blogger. It’s about time I move on to a “real blog.”
For concrete numbers goals:
- Reach 5k followers on my Instagram Page
- Reach 1k followers on my Twitter Page
- Reach 1k followers on BlogLovin
- Build up an email subcriber list of over 500
- Reach pageviews of 10000+ per month
- Reach unique monthly visitors of 5000+ per month
I don’t have much of a timeline in mind, but I would like to reach at least some of these goals by the end of this year.
For those you who took the time to read this through, I’m looking for advice right now:
- What were techniques that you used to grow your blog readership?
- What is the best email subscription service? Do you think I will need a paid service?
- What is the best web hosting site for wordpress.org? I’ve heard mixed things about BlueHost.
- Do you feel that you really needed to pick a niche for your blog?
Those are really the questions I have for y’all. Please take the time to answer in the comments or even shoot me an email if that floats your boat.
