Boozy Brunch in a Unique Setting: TallBoys

One of my favorite things about Tucson is all the unique places to eat. Sometimes, I think people come here expecting all the good places to be easy to find, but sometimes you need a little guidance. This post is the second in a series of restaurant reviews I’m planning (you can see the first HERE) so that you can put a few places on your list for when you decide to visit my lovely city.

Today’s review features Tallboys – a diner built on breakfast, beer, and booze. What more could ya’ ask for?

This place is relatively new and tucked away on the artsy street of 4th Avenue. If you don’t know what you’re looking for, you could totally miss it and this is not a place you want to miss. It fits in perfectly with the 4th Ave. aesthetic with it’s adobe colored walls, diner-esque booths, and rustic decor. The walls even feature photographs from a concert that the owner attended, showcased in black and white in a way that almost makes you feel like you were there. Some, (like the one in the bathroom, take a look if you’re feeling brave), are a little NSFW. You’ve been warned.

The menu features unique items like breakfast poke and more traditional items like a breakfast burrito, so there is something for everyone here. Pair whichever dish you pick with a Tallboy or a craft cocktail and you’ve got the perfect brunch.

What I ordered:

Their cocktail menu made my decision hard, but I ultimately opted for the drink that the bartender recommended called the Water U Waiting 4. It’s a watermelon cocktail made with mint-infused tequila. It’s like the perfect refreshing drink on a warm day (which yes, I had in the fall in Tucson because it was still hot).

Battling a slight hangover, I also chose a dish that featured my favorite hangover cure: tater tots. These tots had everything I love: avocado, eggs, chiles, salsa… It was the best (and only) breakfast tot dish I’ve ever had. Writing this already has me craving them again. As someone who both loves breakfast food and tater tots, this dish is a must.

What Tanner ordered:

Tanner opted for a breakfast burrito smothed in sauce (which was an addition the server recommended – we recommend it too). I was impressed that he finished the entire thing, but it’s not hard when it tastes that good. He also had a few of my tots (but don’t worry, we shared the burrito too).
