Weekend Gastronomy

gas·tron·o·my
/ɡaˈstränəmē/
noun
  1. the practice or art of choosing, cooking, and eating good food.
    • the cooking of a particular area.

For those of you who don’t know, Tucson is UNESCO’s only city of Gastronomy. Yes, that is a real thing. Nearly everyone here is just as big of a foodie as I am which does wonders for our Cafe Culture. From street tacos to fancy milkshakes, Tucson has it all.

Well, this weekend, I was luck enough to have my parents visit and we spent plenty of time enjoying all the restaurants. Not only was it nice to have them visit, but by the end of the weekend, I was well fed and *almost* ready to spend the remaining weeks of the semester living off instant noodles and easy mac.

My favorite place in Tucson is Blanco Tacos + Tequila, known for amazing tacos and tasty margaritas (which we also know is a favorite of mine). We went there first and, of course, had my dad hooked on Mexican for the rest of the trip. With Tucson’s proximity to the border, it is our specialty.

We also went to Guadalajara Original Mexican Grill, Wildflower Restaurant, The Coronet (another favorite of mine), and a few local coffee shops. I tried to photograph what I could, so that you may have some inspiration if you ever make it down this way.

I hope this post doesn’t make you too hungry!

What I ordered:

Blanco Tacos + Tequila:
Blood Orange Margarita
Mahi Mahi Tacos

The Coronet:
Lamb Shank
A recommended red wine

Guadalajara Original Grill:
Queso (Appetizer)
Steak Fajitas
House Margarita

Wildflower:
Salmon
Bars of Sin (Dessert)
Recommended White Wine

Oh my gosh, I am totally hungry now! I’ve never thought of Tucson as a “city for foodies” but clearly that is wrong, all of this food looks delish!

Food is the number one hobby of most of the people I know here! Although, with food like this, how can it not be?
