I know, it’s been a while once again. Sometimes, life gets in the way of blogging. It just happens. But I’m here and I have photos to share with you.
This past weekend was one of the best weekends thus far in my life. I know, I say that a lot, but I was able to go with my boyfriend into Santa Barbara where I could *legally* do some wine tasting for the first time in my life.
We drove from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara, about 2 hours for those of you who are thinking of making the drive, and got lunch at a taco place down the street. The tacos were so tasty, especially since we were so hungry after the drive. The little joint was called East Beach Tacos, and if any of you are craving tacos in Santa Barbara, this place was good.
We spent the night there after a day of moseying around and probably getting a tad too tipsy to drive. Don’t worry, we stayed off the roads. Our room was at the Santa Barbara Inn, right off E Cabrillo Highway and we took a Lyft (use my link for $50 in rides!) downtown, right on State St, where we could walk from winery to winery. The Santa Barbara Inn was recently renovated, so the place looks so beautiful with quaint little rooms. We loved our stay here, and the customer service was impeccable. They have the nicest employees and the even provide a nice complimentary breakfast with your stay. Valet parking here is only $18 dollars, which feels like a steal since I’m from LA.
For those of you who haven’t been to Santa Barbara, it’s beautiful there. I wish I took more pictures of the scenery, but the more wine I drank, the less photos I remembered to take. Fiesta was actually going on at the same time, but unfortunately we didn’t make it to that celebration.
We finished our night with Italian food, at Arnoldi’s Cafe, appropriate after a day of wine tasting. This little getaway was probably our last for a while since it’s time for me to buckle down and focus on my senior year schoolwork and he’s got a job to think about. It’s not all fun and games for me all the time, ladies and gentlemen.
So, the wineries…
Our first winery was Santa Barbara Winery. I think the wine here was my favorite. You get a complimentary glass included in your tasting fee too! They had an outdoor patio, a bar area, and a small room behind the bar where all the wine barrels were stored. The lights in here made the room kind of romantic, and it was nice to get a corner table all to ourselves to kick off the afternoon. We had the mixed tasting here and I really liked it, especially the first two wines which were a Pinot Gris and a Chardonnay.
Our second winery was Area 5.1 and I think the vibe here was my favorite. Ten points for the customer service as well.
Our last two wineries were right next door, Pali Wine Company and The Valley Project. We ended up buying a bottle of white wine at The Valley Project. We plan on opening it up once I’m all moved into my new apartment back in Tucson as a celebratory drink.
It was really a great time and I can’t wait to go back soon. If you’re looking into a weekend of wine tasting in Santa Barbara, I highly recommend going down to Downtown Santa Barbara, there are a lot of wineries on Anacapa Street, and just walking into the places you want to go. We used the Urban Wine Trail map as a starting point and that was a pretty great reference.
